Cleanings and Gum Treatment

It is estimated that over 80% of all adults in America have some form of periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease is primarily responsible for bad breath, adult tooth loss, bleeding gums, and receding gums. The disease ranges from simple gum inflammation to more serious stages, which can cause major damage to the soft tissue and the bone that supports the teeth, resulting in loss of teeth. Research also shows that periodontal disease can lead to health effects beyond the mouth. For instance, periodontal disease has been linked to premature birth, low-birth weight babies, and heart problems. With Dr. Treviño’s conservative and non-surgical approach, he can treat periodontal disease in its early stages when treatment is more effective. Scheduled check-ups and cleanings, and proper home care, can keep the growth of periodontal disease in check. Unlike most dental offices, Dr. Treviño performs all cleanings and periodontal treatment himself so that he can properly evaluate, treat, and track the progress of his patient’s needs.

Antibiotic Therapy

In some cases of periodontal (gum) disease, the use of antibiotic therapy may be necessary as an adjunct to non-surgical therapy. Various antibiotics can be prescribed to be placed in the areas surrounding the teeth where infection remains following treatment or where the immune system did not respond with the desired result.

Sealants

Because of their many bumps and grooves, the chewing surfaces of teeth are highly susceptible to cavities. Food and bacteria often become stuck in these grooves causing tooth decay. A sealant is a simple, effective, protective coating that covers these grooves to prevent cavities on baby and adult teeth. Even though sealants are primarily prescribed to children and teens, adults can benefit greatly from them.

Nightguards

If you complain about soreness in your jaws when opening or closing, then you may have overactive tension of your biting muscles. This condition is exacerbated by the subconscious clenching and grinding of your teeth. This can be evident by wear on the biting surfaces of the teeth and/or fractured teeth or fillings. As a conservative dentist, Dr. Treviño will evaluate your specific symptoms and discuss the benefits of wearing a nightguard. Nightguards are custom fit to your mouth to help your muscles relax and prevent further damage to your jaw and teeth.

Oral Cancer Screening

Twenty-five percent of oral cancer victims have never used tobacco or alcohol. These surprising statistics are why Dr. Treviño offers routine oral cancer screenings to his patients.

Fluoride Therapy

Fluoride is a mineral that is found naturally in the environment. Dr. Treviño routinely recommends professional in-office fluoride application. Professional fluorides strengthen teeth and help prevent weakened teeth from worsening. Everyone can benefit from fluoride therapy, especially those with existing fillings and crowns.
